Quick Easy Tricks To Improve Your Cell Phone Signal
Cell phone signal is something that almost all of us take for granted, but nothing is more frustrating than losing that signal. When your phone doesn’t have that signal it becomes an extremely expensive selfie machine.
Unfortunately, you can’t even post that selfie because you can’t connect without 3G or 4G coverage.
Not only are you not connected to the internet, but you’re also unable to send texts, take calls, shoot out emails, and getting more frustrated by the second.
While this can maddening when you’re on the go it is absolutely unacceptable when you’re at home. There’s nothing worse than paying for a service and receiving a subpar product.
So let’s get down to a few suggestions for improving your service and make sure you can get reception wherever you are.
1. Get to Higher Ground
One of the best ways to get a better cell phone signal is to get above everything else. I’m sure you’ve noticed this in passing before but maybe didn’t piece this together. The radio waves that your phone uses to communicate are much easier to access the higher you are, even if that is just going up to the second floor of the building you’re in. This allows you to get above the obstructions that block cell signal and allows you to access it without the problems they would normally cause.
2. Finding the Nearest Cell Phone Tower
You can do this in a few ways, first and perhaps easiest is to go online to CellReception.com, once you’re there you can simply put in your ZIP code or city and you will see the towers in your area. This is a quick and easy way to find the nearest tower, however, it doesn’t provide as much information as others.
If you want to learn some comprehensive information about the towers in your area you can use an app such as OpenSignal. This app provides some information you can’t find on CellReception.com. This isn’t strictly necessary to follow this tip but some people are just interested in things like that.
Now that you know where the nearest cell towers are you can position yourself both nearest to one and also try and avoid any obstructions in between yourself and the tower.
3. Move Away From Other Electronics
Other electronics can interfere with the signals your phone uses to communicate. Simply getting away from other devices can reduce the interference that is impeding your device.
4. Get to the Window
Radio signals have a hard time traveling through most solid building materials such as concrete, wood, brick, and other materials that are typically used in construction. Windows, however, are both typically thinner and provide less resistance to the cell signal. This is another phenomenon you might have noticed in passing but didn’t realize the cause of the better signal.
This isn’t always the case though as some buildings are made with Low-E glass for energy efficiency. This increased efficiency that saves money on insulation does also provide increased resistance to the radio signals.
5. Make Sure Your Phone is Well Charged
Making a call or sending a text requires a lot of battery. If your phone isn’t well charged it isn’t able to communicate as efficiently.
If you can’t keep your phone charged throughout the day you can always try putting it into a power saving mode.
6. Don’t Block Your Phone’s Internal Antenna
This is extremely easy to do and provides a pretty good signal boost. Unfortunately your body can also obstruct radio signals similarly to construction materials. This leads to people inadvertently worsening their signal. To fix this simply look up where the internal antenna of your phone is located online and make sure you don’t block it with your hand when you’re making calls or texting.
7. Change Cell Phone Carriers
This is easily the most extreme option but at the end of the day, it just might be necessary. Not all carriers cover each region similarly so you might need to make a change to receive good service. To check to see if this is the reason why your signal is spotty check the coverage maps of all the carriers and see if one has better service in your area.
8. Install A Cell Phone Signal Booster
Of course one of the best ways to improve your cell phone signal is to install a signal booster. A signal booster is an easy to install solution that provides you with quite a bit of flexibility. You won’t have to worry about sticking near a window, or trying to get to a higher position.
